U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced a new logo on September 25 featuring the Statue of Liberty and the phrase "Upholding America's Promise," replacing the previous eagle emblem. Director Ur Jaddou said it reflects the agency's culture and values. The article also reviews the 2022 mission statement and the stricter visa extension reviews during the Trump administration.

USCIS announced a new logo on September 25, featuring the Statue of Liberty and the phrase 'Upholding America’s Promise.' The previous logo used the U.S. coat of arms with a bald eagle. USCIS Director Ur Jaddou posted on X: 'Today I am pleased to introduce our new logo. It is designed to connect our culture, values, and long-term goals with how we define our agency, representing our agency's collective contributions and the embodiment of the American Dream.'

The most famous inscription on the bronze plaque inside the Statue of Liberty's pedestal reads: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."

In February 2022, USCIS announced a new mission statement, describing the United States as "a nation of welcome and possibility." This stands in sharp contrast to the approach of the Trump administration. In February 2018, the Trump administration had removed the phrase "nation of immigrants" from the mission statement.

During his tenure, Trump introduced numerous policy measures (many of which were struck down by courts), posing challenges for legal immigrants. Under Trump, USCIS subjected every visa extension (such as for H-1B visas) to extremely rigorous scrutiny, treating them as new applications. This led to an increase in Requests for Evidence (RFEs), raising costs for employers and causing more delays, with many extension applications denied on various grounds. Subsequently, this practice was rescinded, and USCIS reverted to its previous approach—referencing prior approvals when extending visas.
